A Greater Independence

Many will raise flags,
light the sky with fire,
and celebrate the freedom won by earthly hands.

And we should be thankful.

But there is a deeper liberty
that no nation can grant
and no enemy can take away.

For the chains that bound us most
were never made of iron,
but of sin, fear, and death.

Christ broke them all.

The freest soul on earth
is not the one who does whatever he desires,
but the one who has been set free
to become what God created him to be.
