Creation vs. Evolution
Exploring the Evidence for Divine Design
As Christians, it’s easy for us to dismiss the theory of evolution because we know that God created all things in six 24-hour days, as detailed in Genesis 1 and 2. However, we cannot afford to ignore the widespread belief in evolution or assume it will just fade away. Many who adhere to evolution treat it as fact, not as theory, and it is presented that way in schools, the media, and other institutions. While it might be tempting to avoid engaging with this issue, we as Christians should be prepared to defend the truth of creation, without fear or hesitation.
Defending Creation Starts with God
The defense of creation begins with the very first verse of the Bible: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1, NKJV). Our faith is not blind; rather, it is built on evidence. Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
When we look at the natural world around us, we see an intricate order and design that points directly to a Designer. As Paul wrote, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20, NKJV).
The evidence for God’s existence and His role as Creator is so abundant that no one has an excuse for disbelief.
Science and Archaeology Align with Scripture
There is often an assumption that the Bible contradicts science, but this is not the case. In fact, nothing in the Bible is out of step with true science or archaeology. While this may not convince a staunch atheist, it does provide Christians with confidence that our faith is well-founded and defensible. When we engage with the world on these topics, we can be assured that creation is not harder to defend than evolution—it’s actually the opposite.
Evolution: More Questions than Answers
The theory of evolution is just that—a theory. It is not based on facts. One of the biggest assumptions made by evolutionists is the age of the earth, which they claim is between 4.5 and 5 billion years old. However, no one was present to witness this, and their dating methods rely on a starting point that cannot be verified.
Even if we accept the long timeline they propose, evolution still runs into major scientific problems. For example, the sun is shrinking at a rate of five feet per hour. If we extrapolate this backward, the sun would have been too large for life to exist on earth billions of years ago. Additionally, the earth’s magnetic field is decaying at about 5% per century. If we trace this process back through evolutionary time, the magnetic field would have been so strong that it would have torn the earth apart. The more time evolutionists claim they need, the more scientific evidence works against them.
Creation: A Reasonable and Faith-Based Belief
It’s often said that Christians rely on faith, but evolutionists also have to exercise faith—faith in random chance and unprovable assumptions. Consider the following comparisons:
Is it easier to believe that God created the world, or that some cosmic explosion did?
Is it more logical that an intelligent Creator designed all life, or that life emerged from non-living slime?
Does the complex design of the universe point to a Designer, or is it a fluke result of random events?
True science supports the Bible, and the evidence for creation is far more substantial than for evolution. As Psalm 19:1 states, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork” (NKJV).
Evolution Lacks a Solid Foundation
This brief discussion only scratches the surface of the wealth of evidence available to defend creation. Let us not believe that biblical truths are weak or indefensible. In reality, it is evolution that lacks a solid foundation. Many claim that faith in God is blind, but when we open our eyes to the overwhelming evidence around us, it becomes clear that faith in a Creator is not blind—it is based on the truth of God's Word and the world He has made. As Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" (Matthew 11:15, NKJV).
