Evangelism can be one of the most rewarding and yet one of the most challenging efforts in the life of a Christian. At times, we may find ourselves frustrated—feeling as though our words fall on deaf ears, or as if people simply don’t care. But in those moments, we must remember why we share the gospel in the first place. It is not for our own glory or achievement, but to glorify God and fulfill His will—to reach the lost and point them to the saving grace found in Jesus Christ.
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
– 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NKJV)
A Cause for Great Joy
When even one soul comes to repentance and obeys the gospel, it is not a small matter—it is a cause for rejoicing in heaven and on earth. Jesus Himself emphasized the value of one soul:
“I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”
– Luke 15:7 (NKJV)“Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
– Luke 15:10 (NKJV)
What a powerful reminder! Heaven itself celebrates the turning of one heart toward God. Shouldn’t we rejoice just the same?
Our Motivation: Love and Service
We don’t evangelize to build a name for ourselves or to keep a tally of conversions. Our motivation must be love—love for God and love for souls. We serve Christ and plant seeds of truth out of obedience and compassion, trusting God to give the increase.
“So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.”
– 1 Corinthians 3:7 (NKJV)
We may never see the full results of our efforts. But if even one person is rescued from eternal separation from God and brought into His marvelous light, our labor is not in vain.
Focus on Faithfulness, Not Numbers
Jesus Himself preached to thousands, but only a few truly followed Him. In Acts, we see the early church growing, yes—but often by ones and twos. The Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8), Cornelius (Acts 10), Lydia and the Philippian jailer (Acts 16)—each conversion is deeply personal, and each is immensely valuable.
“Let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.”
– James 5:20 (NKJV)
How incredible is it to think that through your patient, loving effort—just one soul might be spared from spiritual death and brought into the joy of salvation?
Stay Encouraged in the Lord
Even when it seems no one is listening, stay faithful. Rejoice in what is good and continue shining your light. You may never know how your words or example affect someone’s eternity.
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
– Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
Never Lose Sight
We must never lose sight of the joy in the saving of a soul. While we hope and pray that many will come to Christ, even one is a priceless treasure to God. Let us rejoice with the angels, stay focused in our mission, and serve our Lord with steadfast love and faith.
“Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
– Psalm 126:5–6 (NKJV)
Let us press on, remembering that eternity is at stake—and that every soul saved is a reason for heaven to celebrate.
