In today’s culture, the term woke is often used to describe an awareness of social and political issues, particularly concerning inequality, injustice, and identity. However, the "woke" movement has evolved into an ideology that celebrates much that is sinful and contrary to God’s Word. It promotes gender confusion, homosexuality, fornication, lust, radical feminism, and abortion—behaviors and mindsets that stand against the teachings of Scripture.
What Does the Bible Say?
The Bible is clear about God’s design and His expectations for humanity:
Gender and Creation: "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." (Genesis 1:27)
Sexuality and Marriage: "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." (Ephesians 5:31)
Fornication and Lust: "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." (1 Corinthians 6:18)
The Sanctity of Life: "For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb." (Psalm 139:13)
The Danger of Twisted Scripture
Many who call themselves Christians have embraced the "woke" agenda, twisting or neglecting biblical doctrine to justify their actions and teachings. This is not new; the apostle Paul warned of this:
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables." (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
Churches that conform to "wokeness" often emphasize love and acceptance while neglecting repentance and obedience to God. True love, as defined by Scripture, involves speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and calling others to repentance (Acts 17:30).
Staying Faithful in a Woke World
Christians are called to stand firm in the truth of God’s Word, regardless of societal pressures. We have all we need in Scripture to remain faithful:
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Prayer is also crucial:
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." (Philippians 4:6)
When we combine the power of Scripture with a dedicated prayer life, we can remain steadfast and discerning, avoiding the traps of "woke" ideology.
We Must Not Conform
As Christians, we must not conform to the patterns of this world (Romans 12:2). Instead, we are to be light in the darkness, showing the world the truth of God’s Word through our words and actions. We must love others enough to share the truth and resist the temptation to blend cultural trends with biblical teachings.
